Dr. Gang Gao, the general manager of the Energy Storage Division of Shouhang Hi-Tech, has been appointed as a part-time professor at the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of Xi'an Jiaotong University.

Recently, Gao Feng, the head of the Postdoctoral Research Station of Shouhang Hi-tech and the General Manager of the Energy Storage Division, was officially awarded a letter of appointment. He was appointed as an adjunct professor at the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of Xi'an Jiaotong University, with a term of five years (from May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2031). This appointment is not only a high recognition of Gao Feng's professional capabilities and industry achievements by the university, but also marks that the university-enterprise research and development cooperation between Shouhang Hi-tech and Xi'an Jiaotong University has entered a deeper and more systematic development stage.

 

 

According to the employment agreement, over the next five years, Dr. Gao Feng will focus on the core research directions of solar thermal power generation and thermochemical energy storage, and deeply participate in the college's talent cultivation, scientific research efforts, and discipline construction. He will undertake the teaching of related courses or give frontier lectures, guide doctoral and master's students to complete their dissertations and experimental research, collaborate with the school's team to conduct key technology research such as CaO/Ca(OH)2, CaO/CaCO3 system thermochemical energy storage, molten salt energy storage optimization, or solar thermal power generation, and actively apply for provincial and ministerial-level or higher scientific research projects; at the same time, he will provide consultation for the discipline development plan, talent introduction, and laboratory construction, submit reports on discipline development suggestions regularly, and hold or participate in academic exchange activities to promote university-enterprise and international cooperation. 


Dr. Gao Feng, who has been deeply engaged in the field of thermal energy power engineering for over 40 years, possesses a solid theoretical foundation and top-notch industry experience. He holds a Doctor of Engineering degree and is a professor-level senior engineer. He was selected as an "Yi Qilin Talent" by Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone. Currently, he serves as the head of the Postdoctoral Research Station of Shouhang High-tech and the General Manager of the Energy Storage Department. He has been extensively involved in technologies such as power station boilers, seawater desalination, solar thermal power generation, and thermal chemical heat storage. Throughout his career, he has led several national and provincial key research projects. He has received numerous prestigious awards in the fields of new energy and high-tech, including the First Prize of China Power Science and Technology Award and the First Prize of Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. He has published over a dozen high-level academic papers, applied for multiple core technology patents, participated in the formulation of 2 industry standards. Previously, he also served as a master's supervisor at a university, accumulating rich experience in collaborative education and research. He is a versatile industry expert with both deep theoretical research capabilities and engineering implementation capabilities.

 

 

Based on this appointment, Dr. Gao Feng will serve as the head of the Shouhang - Xi'an Jiaotong University Joint Research Center for Thermal Chemical Energy Storage Technology, using this as a core link to comprehensively coordinate and promote the joint technological research between the university and the enterprise. Currently, the joint research on thermal chemical energy storage technology by both parties has successfully completed the small-scale trial experiments. The calcium-based thermal chemical heat storage relies on the reversible reaction of CaO for energy storage, divided into two major systems: high-temperature carbonation and medium-temperature hydration. The storage density reaches three times that of traditional molten salt energy storage. Its raw material, limestone, is cheap and environmentally friendly, and it can achieve long-term heat storage without heat loss. 


At present, the R&D team is concentrating on solving key problems such as heat transfer and materials. They are adapting to scenarios like photothermal power stations and industrial waste heat peak regulation. This is the core technical route in the current field of low-cost, large-scale, and long-duration energy storage, with broad industrialization application potential and prominent market value.

 

 

The appointment of Dr. Gao Feng as an adjunct professor at Xi 'an Jiaotong University is a typical practice for high-end technical talents in the industry to enter universities and break through the barriers in Industry-University-Research. In the future, relying on the deep cooperation between schools and enterprises, the maiden voyage-Xi 'an Jiaotong University Thermochemical Energy Storage Technology Joint Research Center will continue to deepen the fields of photothermal power generation and long-term energy storage, solve industrial problems such as new energy consumption and peak shaving of new power systems with technological innovation, help China build a safe, efficient and low-cost new energy storage system, and inject strong Industry-University-Research integration power into the high-quality development of new energy industry and the landing of double-carbon targets.
