Concentrating Light into Towers to Empower Dual Carbon, Reducing Emissions to Generate Gold as a Demonstration Pioneer | Huang Wenbo of Shouhang Hi-Tech Attends the 2026 'National Low-Carbon Day' Main Event

On June 17, 2026, jointly organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the main event of the 2026 National Low-Carbon Day, with the theme of "Green Transformation · Everyone Participates", was grandly held at the Lirong Villa International Conference Center in Nanning.

Li Gao, the vice minister of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, and Ji Guohua, the vice governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Selvin Hart, the assistant secretary-general of the United Nations, delivered a video speech. Huang Wenbo, the chairman of Shanghang Hi-tech Company, was invited to attend as the representative of Gansu Province. In the theme sharing session of "Our Low-Carbon Development Stories", he delivered an exchange speech titled 《 Concentrate Light to Build a Tower, Reduce Carbon to Generate Gold - The Low-Carbon Development Story of Dunhuang Solar Thermal Power Station 》 , sharing the achievements and insights of green and low-carbon practices, presenting the construction and operation results of the first domestic solar thermal power CCER project, and providing a practical sample for the low-carbon transformation of the new energy industry.

During the presentation, Huang Wenbo began by focusing on the 3,000-year-old Chinese wisdom of sunlight. He traced the historical lineage of solar energy utilization technology, starting from the ancient technology of "sunlight collection for fire-making" in the Western Zhou Dynasty, to the modern solar thermal power stations in the Gobi Desert of Dunhuang.

Huang Wenbo introduced that the 100-megawatt molten salt tower-type photothermal power station of Shouhang Hi-tech in Dunhuang is located in the desert area. It uses over 410,000 reflectors to form a concentrating array with a diameter of 3 kilometers, precisely concentrating sunlight onto the top of the 260-meter-high heat absorption tower. The molten salt is heated to 565 degrees Celsius and stored in 30,000-ton storage tanks, and then the heat is transferred through a heat exchange system to drive the steam turbine generator to produce electricity.


Relying on the long-term molten salt heat storage technology, the power station can achieve continuous and stable power output for 24 hours, fundamentally solving the intermittent problem of wind power and photovoltaic power that "depends on the weather", and providing reliable clean power support for the new power system.

As the core highlight of this presentation, Huang Wenbo provided a detailed explanation of the industrial value of "carbon reduction for economic gain". The Dunhuang Solar Thermal Power Station is China's first solar thermal project to obtain the National Certified Voluntary Emission Reduction (CCER). It has established a complete value chain from "green electricity production" to "emission reduction accounting", "national registration", and "market trading": for each unit of green electricity generated, it corresponds to a reduction of one unit of carbon emissions from fossil fuel power generation. The emission reduction amount, after being registered by the state, can enter the national carbon market for trading, achieving the transformation of ecological value into economic value.

As of now, the project has cumulatively registered over 500,000 tons of emission reduction, equivalent to the carbon sequestration effect of re-growing 12,000 acres of forest; the entire life cycle of the power station is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 5.5 million tons, equivalent to the carbon sequestration effect of planting 150,000 acres of forest, and has explored a replicable and mature path for the exploration of carbon asset value in new energy projects.
Huang Wenbo stated that the low-carbon practices at Dunhuang Power Station extend beyond reducing carbon emissions during power generation. Leveraging the geographical characteristics of the arid deserts in the northwest, the project innovatively developed a "photothermal + ecological" integration model. It scaled up the cultivation of wenguan fruit trees, a drought-resistant economic crop, in the gaps between photothermal power stations. Through the afforestation of the fruit trees and the extraction of oil from the seeds for income generation, it simultaneously achieved the triple benefits of power generation, sand control, and poverty alleviation, thus pioneering a Chinese-style low-carbon development path that integrates energy development with ecological governance and promotes harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.


In this "Our Low-Carbon Development Story" session, representatives from six provincial regions across the country were invited to share their first-hand practical cases, covering various fields such as carbon market compliance, carbon footprint management, park transformation, and photothermal CCER. The case of the Dunhuang Photothermal Power Station of First Horizon, with its outstanding features of technological autonomy, value marketization, and ecological synergy, received high attention and recognition from the attending leaders and guests on the spot.
Huang Wenbo stated that Shouhang Hi-tech will continue to deeply focus on the core technology of molten salt tower-type concentrated solar power, accelerate the promotion of industrial scale cost reduction and the implementation of diversified scenarios, continuously explore the multiple values of concentrated solar power in energy supply security, carbon reduction, and ecological governance, and contribute the strength of Shouhang to China's energy green and low-carbon transformation and the timely achievement of the "dual carbon" goals.
