The Dunhuang 10MW molten salt tower solar photothermal power station, which appears in the image of China's innovative science and technology, was built in August 2014 by the first voyage energy saving. At the end of 2016, it was successfully connected to the grid for power generation. It is the third molten salt tower photothermal power station in the world and the first in Asia to realize 24-hour continuous power generation.

Directly opposite to this "Asia's No.1", it is the second phase of the project completely self-built by the first voyage energy-saving -12000 multi-faceted "heliostat" and a heat absorption tower more than 260 meters high-this time, its task is to install 100MW, the project covers an area of 800 hectares, and is the world's largest single-unit concentrator, the highest heat absorption tower, the shortest construction period, and can continuously generate electricity for 24 hours of 100MW-class, it is also China's first 100-megawatt-level photothermal demonstration power station, with completely independent intellectual property rights, and China has become one of the few countries in the world to master 100-megawatt-level molten salt tower photothermal power generation technology.

In order to realize the leapfrog development of China's photothermal field and catch up with the world's leading photothermal power generation countries such as Spain and the United States, the National Energy Administration released the list of the first batch of photothermal power generation demonstration projects in 2016, with a total installed capacity of 1349MW. This batch of demonstration projects is also an important breaking point in the "13th Five-Year Development" package of the Energy Bureau. According to the planning target, the "13th Five-Year Plan" solar thermal installed capacity will be 5GW by 2020. According to the current cost level of 30 yuan per watt for the construction of photothermal power station, the short-term 1GW demonstration project corresponds to the investment market scale of 30 billion yuan, and this figure will reach 150 billion yuan by 2020.

Including the Dunhuang 100MW molten salt tower photothermal project, 1/3 of the 20 photothermal demonstration projects have the first voyage energy saving figure. Some analysts believe that at present, China's renewable energy is mainly hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic. Relatively speaking, the energy storage characteristics of solar thermal power generation make it a relatively stable power in the grid, complementary to photovoltaic and wind power. According to the 13th Five-Year Plan for Electric Power Development of the National Energy Administration, the total installed capacity of photothermal power generation will reach 5GW by 2020. With the strong support of national policies, the solar thermal power generation industry is expected to usher in rapid development. With the maturity of technology and the landing of relevant policies, industry enterprises with first-mover advantages may benefit from this process.

Compared with photovoltaic power generation, the application of photothermal power in China started relatively late, but with the bottleneck of technology and cost being gradually opened, the advantages of photothermal power generation are recognized and utilized. Among the renewable energy sources that can be commercialized at present, the carbon emission of the whole life cycle of photothermal power generation is the lowest, and only 1/10 of that of photovoltaic. In addition, photothermal energy storage is realized through molten salt, and the power station can generate electricity for 24 hours, and the utilization rate of power generation for 5000 hours throughout the year is comparable to that of thermal power.
